Our Story

Ekisia, founded in 2024, is a spin-off company born out of the THINKlab which is an interdisciplinary research and innovation lab at the University of Salford in the UK.

The founders of Ekisia have a track record in developing innovative digital solutions for application areas such as aerospace and automotive engineering, built environment, smart cities, and space exploration since 2007, as the employees of THINKlab, all funded by the European Union and the UK Research and Innovation (UKRI).

Following the success of their work, they received two large grants in 2017 and 2019, from the Global Challenges Research Funds in the UK, to apply their technology expertise to strengthen digital infrastructure and multi-agency collaboration to help build climate resilience in Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Malaysia. These projects led to the creation of the MOBILISE multi-agency collaboration platform, which is now being offered through Ekisia. The founders were also instrumental in setting up Living Labs in Sri Lanka, Malaysia and Pakistan. These Living Labs are now operating as open innovation platforms for the local and national stakeholders to implement evidence-based and participatory approaches to building local resilience against climate-induced disasters.

Following the success of these Living Labs, the founders were awarded two separate grants by the World Bank to pilot the MOBILISE solutions in the Kalutara District in collaboration with the National Building Research Organisation, Tecxal Systems Ltd and the Kalutara District Secretariat in Sri Lanka. These projects have allowed the founders to co-develop and co-validate the technology in live conditions involving government agencies, private organisations, and communities.

The founders of Ekisia are committed to working closely with government agencies, NGOs, industry partners and communities around the world to produce technology solutions tailored to their local needs.
